Hartford, CT- Grant Lavigne cracked a two-out triple, scoring Jordan Beck for the go-ahead run in the sixth inning, as the Hartford Yard Goats beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels 3-2 on Friday night at Dunkin' Park. Yard Goats starter Andrew Quezada and relievers Austin Kitchen, Seth Halvorsen, and Nick Kuzia recorded 12 strikeouts in the Yard Goats victory. Kyle Datres and Sterlin Thompson each had RBI hits and the Yard Goats scored all three runs with two-outs.
The Yard Goats took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the third inning off Richmond starter Nick Zwack. Drew Romo led off the inning with a walk and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Bladimir Restituyo. Kyle Datres followed with a single to center field, scoring Romo and giving the Yard Goats a 1-0 lead. Sterlin Thompson was next and belted a single and Datres scored to make it 2-0.
Richmond tied the game in the fourth inning on Victor Bericoto's two-run homer off Yard Goats starting pitcher Andrew Quezada. The Hartford righty worked five innings and allowed just two runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
The Yard Goats took a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning with another two-out rally. After reliever Spencer Bivens retired the first two batters of the inning Jordan Beck belted a double to left field. Grant Lavigne followed with a triple down the left field line, scoring Beck and giving Hartford a 3-2 lead.
Austin Kitchen retired all six batters faced with three strikeouts in the sixth and seventh innings, Seth Halvorsen worked around a leadoff single in the eighth, and Nick Kuzia fired a scoreless ninth for the Yard Goats.
The Yard Goats continue a 13-game homestand on Saturday evening (6:10 PM) against the Richmond Flying Squirrels (San Francisco Giants affiliate). LHP Joe Rock will start for the Yard Goats and LHP John Michael Bertrand will pitch for the Flying Squirrels. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410, FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app.
