
Yard Goats Slug Their Way to 4th Straight Win

Trenton, NJ - Yard Goats catcher Chris Rabago smashed a two-run single in the sixth inning to put Hartford ahead for good, as Hartford won its fourth consecutive game, a 7-6 victory against the Trenton Thunder at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, New Jersey on Saturday evening. Both teams had leads as late as the fifth inning. The Yard Goats bullpen surrendered just two runs in six innings while sending the thunder to their seventh straight loss. Hartford is now 5-1 against Trenton this season.
The Thunder took the lead in the first inning on a three-run home run by Chris Gittens off Hartford starter Heath Holder. Joy Jun Park led off the inning with a walk, and Ben Ruta singled putting runners at first and second base. Chris Gittens then cranked a home run over the right field fence, his 14th of the season, giving Trenton a 3-0 lead.
The Yard Goats scored a run in the third inning off Trenton starter Nick Green to make it a 3-1 game. Scott Burcham began the rally with a double and Mylz Jones walked. Carlos Herrera's grounder advanced runner to second and third. Manny Melendez followed with an infield single to shortstop and Burcham scored to make it 3-1.
The Yard Goats scored four runs in the fourth inning highlighted by RBI hits by Manny Melendez and Scott Burcham. After trailing 6-5 in the sixth, Rabago cracked a double scoring Mylz Jones and Melendez go give Hartford a 7-6 lead. Ben Meyer earned the win in relief.
The Yard Goats wrap up the four game series in Trenton, New Jersey on Sunday afternoon at 1:00PM. The final game before the All-Star break will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and 100.9 FM and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com.
