
Yard Goats Drop Homestand Opener

Hartford, CT - The Yard Goats lost the first game of the homestand to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 12-0 on Tuesday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park in Hartford. The game was played in front of a capacity crowd of 6,850. The Jays affiliate smashed three home runs and scored 11 runs over the first four innings while taking the first of a six-game series. Chavez Young had three hits and 4 RBI for the Fisher Cats. Yard Goats relievers PJ Poulin and Yoan Aybar each tossed a scoreless inning.
The Fisher Cats scored three runs in the second inning on LJ Talley's home run to take a 3-0 lead. Jordan Groshans and Kevin Vicuna each singled, and then Talley blasted a three-run homer down the right field line and into the second deck off Hartford starter Matt Dennis.
The Fisher Cats rallied to add four runs in the third inning on six hits and a walk. Tanner Kirwer started the frame with a double and later scored on a single by Vinny Capra to make it 4-0. That hit was the first of four straight singles, including a two-run hit by Chavez Young which made it 6-0. Young later scored on Chris Bec's single and it was 7-0.
New Hampshire tacked on four more runs in the fourth inning on a pair of two-run home runs as Samad Taylor and Chavez Young went deep against reliever Michael Baird. The Fisher Cats had an 11-0 lead after four innings.
Five Fisher Cats pitchers combined to shutout the Yard Goats. Former New York Yankees righty Johnny Barbato started the game and allowed just one hit over the first three innings. Parker Caracci fired two innings of relief in his Double-A debut to record the win. Brody Rodning, Marcus Reyes and former Yard Goats Emerson Jimenez also pitched.
