
Yard Goats Blast 4 Homers, Outslug Sea Dogs for 7th Consecutive Win

Portland, Maine- The Yard Goats blasted four home runs, scored five runs in the second inning, and added seven more in the fourth inning, and outslugged the Portland Sea Dogs for a 14-12 victory on Friday night at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. Every player in the Yard Goats lineup had at least one hit, and Willie MacIver had four. Daniel Montano had a home run, double and single. The victory improved the first-place Yard Goats to a franchise best 36-19 record, and Hartford has won a season-high seven consecutive games. In addition, the Yard Goats have won seven straight series. Only 14 games remain in the first half of the season as the Yard Goats try to reach the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
The Yard Goats established season highs for runs scored (14), home runs (4) and hits (16) while defeating the Sea Dogs for the third straight game in Southern Maine. Hartford has won eight of the first ten matchups against Portland this season, including the past five.
Portland scored four runs in the first inning off Yard Goats starter Karl Kauffmann, highlighted by a three-run homer by Tyreque Reed. The Yard Goats responded by scoring five runs off former Red Sox lefty Kyle Hart, with RBI hits by Jimmy Herron, Hunter Stovall, Isaac Collins and Ezequiel Tovar, giving Hartford a 5-4 lead. Portland cranked a pair of homers in the bottom of the second as Ceddanne Rafaela and Reed went deep to make it 6-5 Sea Dogs after two innings.
The Yard Goats tied the game in the third as Daniel Montano belted his first Double-A homer into the right field bullpen and it was 6-6. Hartford tied its most productive inning of the season with a seven-run fourth inning to take a 13-6 lead. Tovar's sacrifice fly put the Yard Goats in front for good. Aaron Schunk cranked a three-run homer and Michael Toglia followed with a solo shot. Portland scored three runs in the sixth inning before Willie MacIver hit Hartford's fourth homer in the seventh to make it 14-10. The Sea Dogs hit their fifth homer of the game in the ninth but Stephen Jones struck out Pedro Castellanos to end the game with a runner on base.
The Yard Goats and Sea Dogs will play the fifth of a six-game series on Friday night (6:00 PM) at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. RHP Mitch Kilkenny will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Victor Santos will start for the Sea Dogs. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday, June 14th against the Akron RubberDucks.
