Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Fightin Phils led the entire game as they defeated the Altoona Curve 7-5 on Friday to take a two-game lead in the series.
Vito Friscia, Josh Ockimey and Logan O'Hoppe each hit home runs in the contest. Friscia and Ockimey as well as Kevin Vicuna finished with two hits.
Hitting in the leadoff spot, Friscia crushed the first pitch he saw in the first inning to right field. Two batters later, Ockimey doubled the lead with a solo homer of his own to right field.
Reading pushed the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning. Jhailyn Ortiz doubled and advanced to third on Ockimey's single. O'Hoppe hit a sacrifice fly to plate Ortiz.
The Curve scored two runs in the top of the fifth on a two-run home run to cut its deficit to one.
The R-Phils responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Hunter Markwardt led off with a single and Ortiz walked. With two runners on, O'Hoppe blasted his thirteenth home run of the season to center field to make the score 6-2.
Altoona scored two more runs in the top of the sixth on an RBI groundout by Blake Sabol and a home run by Brendt Citta.
Once again, Reading responded. Markwardt led off with a walk and hustled to third base on Friscia's single. Ortiz batted in Markwardt with an RBI groundout.
The Curve scored a run in the top of the eighth inning but were held scoreless the rest of the game.
Ethan Lindow drew the start and picked up the win on the mound. He pitched five innings and held the Curve hitless until the fifth inning. Lindow gave up two runs on two hits and finished with eight strikeouts, a season-high for the left-hander.
Julian Garcia pitched the sixth inning and gave up two runs on two hits. He struck out two batters.
Mike Adams came on for the next two innings. He gave up one run on four hits and struck out three strikeouts.
Ofriedy Gomez pitched the ninth inning and got the save. He struck out three of the four batters he faced to slam the door shut.
