Yankees Come From Behind In 3-2 Win Over Tribe

INDIANAPOLIS -- Second baseman Andy Cannizaro and first baseman Eric Duncan came up with key run-scoring hits in the top of the ninth to help Scranton/Wilkes-Barre post a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Indianapolis in front of 7,730 Wednesday afternoon at Victory Field.

The Yankees improve to 53-42 overall and 29-23 on the road, while the Indians fall to 49-47 on the season and 28-20 at home. Scranton/W-B, which has won nine of its last 11 overall, remains in first place in the International League's North Division.

Scranton/W-B, which had not pushed across a run since the second inning, scored twice in the ninth. DH Erubiel Durazo (0-for-2, 2 R) led off with a walk, moved to second on a groundout and came plateward on Cannizaro's (3-for-4, 1 R, 2 RBI) two-out single to right. Then, after moving to second on a throw to the plate, Cannizaro scored the go-ahead run on Duncan's double off the right-field wall.

The Indians cracked the scoreboard with a pair of runs in their first at-bat. SS Brian Bixler (3-for-5, 1 R) reached on a single to center and scored on LF Michael Ryan's (2-for-5, 1 R, 2 RBI) eighth roundtripper of the season, which cleared the left-field wall.

The Yankees scored their first run of the afternoon in the second when Durazo led off with a free pass, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on SS Angel Chavez's (2-for-4) single to right and eventually scored on Cannizaro's base knock to center.

Scranton/W-B LHP Sean Henn (2.0 IP, 1 H) earned the win, improving to 1-2. Former Indians RHP Jim Brower (1.0 IP, 3 H, 1 SO) picked up the save, his 18th of the season and second of the series.

Tribe RHP Jonah Bayliss (1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO) blew his second save of the season and fell to 1-2 with the loss. LHP Michael Tejera (7.2 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) enjoyed his longest outing of the season, but did not figure in the decision.

The Tribe, which sat atop the IL's West Division for 69 straight days earlier this season, has dropped nine of its last 10 and 19 of its last 25 overall.

The two clubs return to Victory Field on Thursday at 7 p.m., for the four-game series finale. RHP Ross Ohlendorf is scheduled to start for Scranton/W-B, while RHP Marty McLeary is expected to get the nod for Indianapolis.

The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.
