Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - July 18, 2007 - It took 12 innings, but the Knights were able to give manager Marc Bombard his 1,600th career victory as the Knights were 3-2 winners over visiting Buffalo. The Knights have now won three straight.
Wiki Gonzalez hit a game winning RBI double to drive in Casey Rogowski from second base. The final run capped off a great night for Rogowski who went 3 for 4 with a solo home run and double.
Bombard got the win against a team he formerly managed. Bombard was with Buffalo in 1992. In his first year with the Knights, Bombard has guided the team to a recent surge as they have won 14 of their last 22 games and have risen to just 9.5 games behind first place Richmond.
The Knights also got great pitching from starter Gavin Floyd who went 8 innings and struck out a season high 10 batters. Floyd allowed just 2 runs off 3 hits. Reliever David Aardsma earned his 3rd win of the season.
Bombard continues as the active leader in career minor league managerial victories. Bombard will take the Knights on a 12 game road trip on Friday where he will face his former club Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The Knights and Bisons will play in the series finale tomorrow at 6:15 p.m. at Knights Stadium. LHP Heath Phillips (7-7, 5.20) will pitch for Charlotte. Buffalo will counter with RHP Adam Miller (4-2, 4.17 ERA).
