Florence Y'alls News Release

Marion, Ill. - After dropping the first two games to the Southern Illinois Miners, The Florence Y'alls used pitching, defense and timely hitting to take game three.

Starting with the pitching, the Y'alls put left hander Casey Grimm on the mound for his third start of the season. Grimm went five solid innings, giving up two runs on eight hits.

Defense helped Grimm out as well. In the third, Miners' right fielder Nolan Earley drilled a ball off of the top of the right field wall. Earley, trying to make it a double, was nailed by Florence right fielder Connor Crane for the second out of the inning.

With Florence trailing 1-0, in the fifth inning an RBI single from Rodney Tennie tied the game up at one. Florence would take the lead later in the inning as Jordan Brower scored on a wild pitch from Miners' starter Gunnar Kines.

In the sixth, Luke Mangieri tied the game up at two, plating Jared Mang with an RBI-double off Andrew McDonald. The run was credited to Casey Grimm.

With the score tied at two, solid pitching from Sean Hughes kept the game tied into the ninth. Hughes struck out the side in the eighth. Even working out of a bases loaded, one out situation.

Florence took the lead in ninth. Chad Sedio started the inning off with a double, and later scored on an error following a ground out from Trevor Craport. The error was committed by Mangieri, who tried to get Sedio taking third on a possible 5-3 putout. The ball was overthrown and Sedio crossed home to make it 3-2.

Joe Dougherty earned his sixth save of the year closing the door in the ninth.

Florence moves to 31-19 on the year and one-half game over Evansville in the west.

Florence now returns home for a three-game series with the Joliet Slammers Friday night. Johnathan Tripp will take the hill, facing Logan Lyle.
