New York Boulders News Release

The New York Boulders scored early, often and late in a wild 15-7 win over the New Jersey Jackals on Thursday at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, NJ.

The win completed a sweep of the three-game series for the Boulders, while the loss was the seventh straight for the Jackals.

New York had a pair of big innings in the victory, tallying six times in the first inning and five times in the eighth frame.

The Boulders leaped in front with those six runs in the top of the first inning, three coming on a bases loaded triple by Marcus Mastrobuoni and one via a single by Phil Caulfield. However, the Jackals answered with four in their half of the first - all on home runs, a two-run shot by Russ Olive, his seventh of the year, and a two-run blast by Jason Agresti, his sixth of the season and first of the night.

The ball continued to jump out of the park over the next three innings. In the third, Ray Hernandez hit a solo homer, his 14th of the year, for the Boulders. That was answered by Agresti's solo shot in the bottom of the frame, his seventh of the season. An inning later, Zach Kirtley's home run for New York, his eighth of the year, gave the Boulders an 8-5 lead.

New Jersey closed to within a run at 8-7 with two runs in the fifth, one on a groundout by T.J. Ward and the second on a wild pitch by New York's Alex Mack, who relieved starter Orsen Josephina with one out in the stanza and runners on first and second.

The Boulders responded with two runs in the seventh on RBI singles from Jack Sundberg and Kevonte Mitchell to increase their advantage to 10-7.

New York broke the game open with their five-run eighth inning that included a two-run single by Phil Capra, an RBI single from Milton Smith, Jr. and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kirtley. The Boulders also scored on a double steal that saw Sundberg race home. The explosion gave New York a 15-7 lead.

Neither starter made it deep into the game. Josephina left in the fifth and was charged with seven runs, while the Jackals' Chase Ingram lasted just four innings and was charged with eight runs (six earned).
