Y'alls Sweep Double Header with ThunderBolts

Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE, Ky. - The Florence Y'alls took both ends of a scheduled double header over the Windy City ThunderBolts on Wednesday night at Y'alls Ballpark in Florence.

In game one, it took extra innings to decide a victor. After Windy City could not score in the top of the eighth inning with a runner placed at second to begin the inning, Florence loaded the bases with one out. Pinch hitter Axel Johnson walked to walk-off the ballgame.

Florence starter Frank Valentino tossed 4.2 strong innings of 2-run baseball. Valentino made one mistake all night, a pitch to ThunderBolts second baseman Payton Robertson that got sent over the left field wall. The Y'alls starter struck out seven batters, giving up just three hits and walking two. Reliever Joe Dougherty gets his second win of the season to improve to 2-0.

The win marked number 40 on the season for Florence, the second team in the Frontier League to reach that mark (Evansville).

In game two, Windy City jumped out to an immediate 1-0 lead after the top of the first. Despite getting leadoff runners on in each of the next five innings, the ThunderBolts could not score.

In the third inning, power struck Florence to take a 3-1 lead. First baseman Jordan Brower led off the inning with a bomb over the right field fence to tie the ball game. Three batters later, Chad Sedio hit his ninth home run of the season, a 2-run homer 415 feet into the night sky.

In the bottom of the sixth, Trevor Craport added his 16th home run of the season to give the Y'alls an insurance run.

Y'alls starter Jared Cheek tossed five innings of 1-run ball, striking out five batters and walking one Thunderbolt to earn the victory. Edgar Martinez came in in relief, throwing a scoreless sixth and seventh to earn his second save of the season in just his second appearance out of the bullpen of the year.
