Florence Y'alls News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - The Florence Y'alls (21-22), presented by Towne Properties, saw their pitching falter for the second consecutive day in 12-4 defeat to the Windy City Thunderbolts (18-25) at Ozinga Field on Friday.
The Y'alls struggled to contain the Thunderbolts' offense out of the gate and quickly fell behind. Windy City plated a run in the first inning when right fielder Will Riley was hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on an RBI single from designated hitter Peyton Isaacson. The Y'alls answered with a run in the second when catcher Zade Richardson hit a solo home run off of Thunderbolts starter Taylor Sugg, but Windy City kept its offensive onslaught going. In the second, the Bolts brought eight hitters to the plate and scored three runs. Shortstop Troy Viola hit a two-run triple and Will Riley drove in the third run on an infield single. After two, Windy City led 4-1.
The Thunderbolts plated three more in the third against Florence starter Bobby Brabrand (6.0 IP, 11 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 3 K). The first two hitters reached to set up first baseman Micah Yonamine, who drove in a run on a ground-rule double. Two batters later, catcher Jonathan Waite singled in two runners to give the Thunderbolts a 7-1 lead.
Florence tacked on a run in the fifth when right fielder Ray Zuberer singled, but Florence would never draw closer. Windy City scored a run in the seventh and three more in the eighth on a pair of home runs to take a 12-3 lead. Righthander Cole Bellair pitched the ninth for Windy City and secured a 12-4 series-opening win.
Florence has now lost three straight games and has fallen to one game below .500. The Y'alls finish June with a 12-14 record within the month. Game 2 between Florence and Windy City is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT from Ozinga Field on Saturday, July 1st.
