Calgary Hitmen News Release

Edmonton, AB - Carter Yakemchuk set a new Calgary Hitmen franchise record for goals by a defenceman in a single season, but it came in a 5-4 loss on the road in Edmonton against the Oil Kings Wednesday afternoon.

Yakemchuk scored twice, his 25th and 26th, to break the previous mark of 24 he shared with Jake Bean entering the day. Bean established the club record in the 2015-16 campaign.

Maxim Muranov and Oliver Tulk also counted goals for the Hitmen who erased a 3-1 third period deficit to grab the lead with 2:21 remaining.

Calgary was unable close out the home side as the Oil Kings pushed back, receiving the tying goal from Ty Nash with 32.3 seconds to go followed by the game winner from Gavin Hodnett with 9.3 seconds left on the clock.

Gracyn Sawchyn and Marshall Finnie also found the back of the net for the Oil Kings at Rogers Place in Edmonton's first victory following six losses to the Hitmen in the season series.

Today marked a personal milestone for two Hitmen forwards as Connor Dale and Carson Wetsch both played in their 100th career Western Hockey League regular season game.

The Hitmen return home Friday, Feb. 23 to open a three game homestand against the Wenatchee Wild. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome. Calgary will then host Lethbridge on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2:00 p.m. before welcoming the Oil Kings on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 7:00 p.m.
