
Prince George Cougars Secure 5-1 Win, Zac Funk Sets Power-Play Record

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars earned their second consecutive victory in a commanding 5-1 triumph over the Seattle Thunderbirds, Tuesday at the CN Centre.
Zac Funk spearheaded the Cougar offence, notching three points and securing his place as the Cougars' all-time single-season leader for power-play goals with 23, surpassing former standout Chase Wheatcroft. Josh Ravensbergen secured his 21st win of the season with an impressive performance, turning away 20 shots out of 21 faced from Seattle.
The game ignited with Prince George seizing an early lead on a relentless power-play, courtesy of Riley Heidt's 31st goal of the season. At 10:16, Zac Funk extended the lead to 2-0 with a shot from a bad angle, eluding Scott Ratzalff. Seattle responded with Sam Popowich's power-play goal at 14:05, narrowing the margin to 3-1. However, the Cats swiftly responded as Carlin Dezainde found the net just 25 seconds later, solidifying Prince George's 3-1 lead at the end of the first period.
In the second period, history was etched by Zac Funk as the 20-year-old forward surpassed the franchise record with his 23rd power-play goal of the season, making it 4-1 Cougars at 10:48. Josh Ravensbergen showcased stellar goalkeeping, making crucial saves to maintain Prince George's lead through 40 minutes of play.
Prince George secured another goal in the third period when rookie forward Terik Parascak netted his 32nd goal of the campaign at 3:11, sealing a 5-1 victory and marking the team's sixth consecutive win on home ice.
The Prince George squad now gears up for a two-game road trip, commencing Friday night against the Kamloops Blazers at 7:00pm in Kamloops.
