Sioux City Explorers News Release
The Sioux City Explorers finish their four game road trip undefeated getting the win over Kansas City by a score of 3-1 over the T-Bones.
X's started the game off hot with a lead-off triple by centerfielder Matty Johnson, he later scored on a sac-fly RBI by Rene Tosoni to put Sioux City up 1-0. In the second inning, Tim Colwell reached base on a one out single to left, then stole second and third base to put him in scoring position. Catcher Matt Koch ended up getting the RBI on a 6-3 putout that scored Colwell from third.
T-Bones first baseman Joe Rapp scored the first run for Kansas City with a solo home run in the second inning to shorten the X's lead 2-1. That would be the lone run for the T-Bones in the contest, they did however have six hits on the night while leaving seven on-base.
Explorers scored one more run in the fifth on an error by the T-Bones third baseman. The Sioux City Explorers get the sweep over Kansas City with a 3-1 victory.
At the mound to start for the X's was right-hander John Straka (1-1) who bounced back from a rocky start in his first outing. Straka went six innings allowing only one run and striking out one in the victory. Rob Wort came in to relief in the seventh, he pitched in the seventh and eighth holding the T-Bones scoreless while striking out three. The last pitcher in game game for Sioux City was X's closer Jose Flores (s-4) who kept his phenomenal start to the season intact, closing out the ball game and getting his fourth save of the year out of four save chances.
Robert Dorn was charged with the loss for the T-Bones, he pitched in four innings, allowed two runs on three hits and struck out four. Josh Tols, Aaron Baker, Jonathan Kountis and Kris Regas pitched out of the bullpen for Kansas City as well.
Explorers outfielder Tim Colwell had the hot-bat on the night, going 2 for 3, with a double, two stolen bases and a run scored. Matty Johnson had a good night as well tripling and scoring to start off the X's run. For the T-Bones, Joe Rapp was the big hitter going 2 for 4 along with his first home run of the season.
