
Xplosion name Director of Public Relations

PITTSBURGH, August 16, 2006 - The Pittsburgh Xplosion announced today the hiring of Phil Denne as the team's Director of Public Relations. He will coordinate public and media relations for the team.
Denne has spent over a decade in the athletic communications office at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, the last three as Associate Director. A 1996 SJU graduate, he coordinated the day-to-day operations of the Saint Joseph's Sports Network; oversaw production of department publications, including media guides and newsletters; managed game operations; and served as the primary media contact for several Olympic sports.
The Strongsville, Ohio native served as a liaison between the athletic department and various broadcast media outlets. He served as executive producer of head coach Phil Martelli's award-winning "HawkTalk" television show, which was tabbed as the nation's bet by The Sporting News in 2001. He also produced the "HawkTalk" radio show and served as producer and host of "Courtside", Saint Joseph's women's basketball show. A play-by-play voice for Hawk baseball broadcasts on SJSN since the 1997 season, he joined the women's broadcast team for the 2003-04 season and handled streaming broadcasts of all of SJU's Olympic sports on sjuhawks.com.
Denne received his Master's Degree in Journalism from Temple University in 1999 and has been pursuing his MBA at Saint Joseph's.
The Pittsburgh Xplosion CEO Richard Hersperger stated, "Phil Denne's experience and professionalism will help strengthen a already great staff.
The Xplosion holds its second open tryouts at the club 4 Life in Monroeville on Friday and Saturday this week.
