Bellingham Slam News Release

Bellingham, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam announced today that two of their players from their successful 2005-06 season have signed contacts with professional teams in Europe.

Caleb Gervin, the Slam's leading scorer and ABA All-Star guard, has been signed by the Tampere Pyrinto in Finland's top league. Craig Roosendaal, a reserve forward and three-point specialist, had signed a contract with the Svendborg Rabbits in Denmark's top division.

Gervin, the nephew of ABA and NBA great George "Iceman" Gervin, led the Slam in scoring last season with 25 points per game, including 42 points per game in the playoffs. Gervin helped lead the Slam to the semifinals of the ABA Championship tournament in March.

"Caleb was definitely a success story for us in our in first year of operation," commented Robert Hofstetter, general manager for the Slam. "He made a name for himself by consistently putting up great numbers and dazzling fans with his athleticism."

Roosendaal, who played two years at Western Washington after transferring from Edmonds Community College, averaged 10 points per game from the Slam last season. Roosendaal scored a career high of 27 points on February 5 against the Tijuana Dragons.

"It will be sad not having both of these guys here in Bellingham this season," added Hofstetter. "But this is really what we're about, giving players an opportunity to improve their game, get noticed and make it to the next level."

The Slam will be holding an open tryout camp to evaluate potential players for the 2006-07 season, which begins in November. The tryout will be held on Saturday, August 26 at the Furtado Center in Seattle. The cost to participate in the tryout is $75 and interested players can register by visiting www.bellinghamslam.com or by calling (360) 734-SLAM.
