Fernandez: Allowed 3 R on 2 H over 5.2 relief IP in 8/11 ND @ KAN w/ 3 K (10-0 Intimidators)

THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia bested Lexington 9-2 on Friday evening. The Power scored once off Legends starter Luke Farrell in the third inning on an Edwin Espinal single and a Reese McGuire three-base hit. West Virginia added two more in the fourth and three in the fifth off reliever Ashton Goudeau. After a Frank Schwindel home run broke up Dovydas Neverauskas's shutout bid, the Power added two in the eighth on a Michael Fransoso home run and a run in the ninth on a ground out. Neverauskas earned his sixth win of the season with his sixth quality start and a career-high eight strikeouts. Farrell took the loss as six different Power players had at least two hits in a 15-hit attack.

THREE TO TIE: JaCoby Jones home run on Thursday was hits 21st of the season and put the shortstop three behind Stephen Chapman's Power franchise record of 24, set during the 2007 season. Jones has hit 16 of his home runs on the road and just five at home. West Virginia has six road games remaining of their 16 contests left this season. Jones also sits three behind Hickory's Travis Demeritte for the SAL lead.

RIVALRY RENEWED: The Power have played Lexington more than any other opponent during their nine previous seasons. The cross-division rivals are only two-and-a-half hours apart along I-64 and have played 188 times since the start of the 2005 season. West Virginia leads the all-time series 95-93, though has only won five times in 14 games this season with five left to go against Lexington in 2014. Each remaining game will be played at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, where the Power are 3-3 this season and 55-43 all-time.

EIGHT K'S IN NEVERAUSKAS: Dovydas Neverauskas retired a career-best eight batters on strikeouts over six innings on Friday. The right-hander had not struck out more than five in any of his previous 23 starts this season and surpassed his previous career-high of six, recorded on June 28, 12 while playing for the GCL Pirates.

SUPPORT PROVIDED: Michael Fransoso and Adam Landecker combined to drive in five on the nine Power runs on Friday. Fransoso drove in three for the first time in a West Virginia uniform while Landecker had his first multi-RBI of the season and seven in his career.

RING RING: Elias Diaz, West Virginia's primary catcher during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, was promoted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday. The backstop was an All-Star for Altoona this season and was batting .328 over 91 games.

A DIFFERENT HALF: Jared Lakind allowed 11 runs, ten earned, over 12 and two-third innings of work during the first half of the season. Pittsburgh transferred the southpaw back to Jamestown to start the second half of the 2014 season, but promoted him back to West Virginia on July 23. Since rejoining the Power, Lakind has not allowed a run on six hits over eight complete innings.

POWER PROMO UPDATE- AUGUST 23: The Power battle the Kannapolis Intimidators on Saturday, August 23 at Appalachian Power Park on for Back-to-School Night. Backpacks will be given away to the first 1,000 fans. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm and the game and giveaway are presented by Columbia Pipeline Group and 98.7 The Beat.

POWER POINTS: Austin Meadows was tabbed as the South Atlantic League's Player-of-the-Week on Monday while

Buddy Borden was named South Atlantic League Pitcher-of-the-Week. It is the first time during the Pirates affiliation that the Power have swept the league's weekly awards... West Virginia has surrendered 84 runs in the first inning this season and 84 runs in the sixth, accounting for 29 percent of the teams total runs allowed this season... Dovydas Neverauskas is West Virginia's entry in MiLB.com's annual Moniker Madness, an online poll choosing the best name in Minor League Baseball.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh lost 5-4 in the series opener at Washington... Indianapolis hammer Louisville 9-0, reaching on 18 hits... Altoona 3-2 in a ten-inning walk-off at Erie. Tom Harlan worked seven scoreless for the Curve... Bradenton allowed three in the eighth and two in the ninth in a 10-7 loss to St. Lucie... Jamestown blanked Batavia 6-0.
