Asheville, NC--The Augusta GreenJackets snapped a nine-game losing streak to their Southern division foe, the Asheville Tourists, with a 5-0 win at McCormick Field. Both offenses struggled throughout most of the evening, but a five-run seventh inning was all the visitors needed.

Steven Messner started for the 'Jackets and tossed a one-hitter through seven innings.

Asheville's lone base hit off Messner came on a lead-off double in the sixth by Wilfredo Rodriguez. In the eighth, Rodriguez managed an infield single and Zach Osborne's ninth inning double rounded out Asheville's hits for the night.

Kyle Freeland started for the Tourists and pitched well. The first-rounder worked 4.2 frames, surrendered just four hits, and did not allow a run. Freeland left with two outs in the fifth and a runner at first. Trent Blank was summoned from the bullpen and quickly struck out Will Callaway to end the threat.

After Blank tossed a scoreless sixth, Jefri Hernandez entered the 0-0 game in the seventh.

Hernandez immediately found trouble. A double and a walk to start the inning put runners aboard. Two batters later, Randy Ortiz knocked a single through the left side of the infield to make it 2-0.

Later in the frame, Callaway delivered an RBI single scoring Ortiz. A sacrifice fly and a Rafael Rodriguez RBI single made it 5-0. Augusta batted around in the inning.

The series concludes on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 2:05pm. It will be the final meeting of the season between these two clubs.
