The Braves, however, fought back, scoring twice in the sixth before the Power answered with one in the bottom half to take the lead. Rome came back again with a run to tie the game in the eighth then six in the ninth inning, capped off by a Carlos Franco grand slam to give the Braves the win. Isaac Sanchez was charged with the loss while Richie Tate earned the win.
NUMBER ONE WITH A BULLET: JaCoby Jones home run on Firday was his 16th of the season, placing the shortstop in a tie for seventh most in a single West Virginia Power season. Three players have hit sixteen in a season: Alen Hanson, Jose Osuna and Gregory Polanco in 2012. Only two players have hit 20 or more home runs in any season single Charleston-based teams joined the SAL in 1987 (Stephen Chapman (24) and Jason Parsons (20)).
ITS BEEN A WHILE: This series will mark the first time since 2010 that the Rome Braves have paid a visit to Appalachian Power Park. The last time Rome was in Charleston was a four-game set from August 30 to September 2 in 2010 that saw the Power take three of four from the Braves. West Virginia took the only series between the two in 2014 2-1 and the Power and Braves are tied in the all-time series at 17-17. At Appalachian Power Park, West Virginia is 9-6 all-time against the Braves.
LATE BLOOMER: Cody Dickson has been dominant in the second half of the 2014 season. The southpaw was 2-8 with a 5.58 ERA in 13 starts in the first half of the season. Since the All-Star break, Dickson is 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA in six starts and has allowed just two earned runs over his last three starts combined.
ON THE WAY: In the first half of the 2014 season, West Virginia posted 20 wins. Through 31 games in the second half, the Power have 14 wins and have over half of the second half of the season remaining. West Virginia did not reach 14 wins in the first half until 43 games into the season with a 7-0 win over Delmarva on May 18.
WALK IT OUT: Friday night's walk-off victory for West Virginia on a Danny Collins walk with the bases loaded scoring Reese McGuire marked the first Power walk-off victory of 2014. The Power had previously watched nine walk-off wins by opponents before winning their first. In 2013, West Virginia walked-off eight times while watching a walk-off win by opponents six times.
SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY: The West Virginia Power will play just their 13th game against a Southern division opponent at Appalachian Power Park today. The last time the Power hosted a cross-divisional showdown was from May 7 to May 9 when West Virginia was swept by Savannah.
