THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia lost 7-2 on Wednesday night to the Greensboro Grasshoppers. The Hoppers took a 2-0 lead against Buddy Borden in the second and added a run in the third. After an Avery Romero home run pushed Greensboro ahead 4-0, the Power scored twice to halve the deficit. Candon Myles scored on a throwing error in the fifth and Wyatt Mathisen crossed on a ground out by Justin Maffei in the seventh. The Grasshoppers scored three more runs with the benefit of a base hit to clinch a series sweep. Borden took the loss and Jarlin Garcia garnered the win. West Virginia was outscored 22-6 during the three game series.

11 STRAIGHT: The Power have now lost 11 consecutive games. This winless stretch is the longest in franchise history dating back to the 2005 season. No West Virginia team had lost more than eight games in a row at any point over the last nine-plus seasons. Over half of the team's losses this year have come during one of their three longest losing streaks, total 25 games. West Virginia has had losing streaks of 11, eight and seven games this season.

FOUR TO GO: The first half of the 2014 season is set to close with a four game series against Delmarva starting tonight. The Power and Shorebirds have played each other 123 times since 2005 and West Virginia leads the all-time series 62-61. The Power hold a 40-31 mark at home against the Shorebirds. West Virginia open the second half on June 19 at Lakewood as part of a seven game road trip that also takes them to Salisbury to play Delmarva.

RAMIREZ STILL STREAKING: Harold Ramirez extended his hitting streak to seven consecutive games with a pair of base hits Wednesday night. Ramirez's current streak is his longest this year and the outfielder has reached safely with at least one base hit in 25 of his 33 games.

POLANCO GOES TO PIRATES: The Pirates recalled outfielder Gregory Polanco to the active 25-man roster and he made his Major League debut against Chicago Tuesday night, batting second and playing right. The outfielder, a 2012 South Atlantic League All-Star and Topps league Player-of-the-Year, was the 40th former West Virginia Power player to reach the Majors and third this season, joining Casey Sadler (Pittsburgh) and Rudy Owens (Houston). Polanco hit .325 for the Power in 2012 with 16 home runs and 85 runs batted in over 116 games.

WATERED DOWN: Tuesday's loss was the third game during West Virginia's ten game losing streak that was cut short due to the weather. The Power fell 3-0 last Tuesday in a rain-shortened, five inning no-hitter against Kannapolis and then in six innings at Hickory on Sunday by a 4-2 final. Those are the only three Power games that have been finished early due to inclement weather this season.

JUNE SWOON: West Virginia is winless in nine games this month. Power hitters have a .219 average while the staff has a 6.35 ERA since the month began. The club went 9-17 in April with a .254 batting average and an ERA of 3.75. In May, West Virginia went 10-18 with a .260 and a 4.03 earned run average.

PROMO UPDATE- JUNE 14: West Virginia welcomes Delmarva on June 14 at 7:05 pm. The club will celebrate Chuck, the Power mascot, and his birthday. 100 bikes will be given away to kids 12 and under. The Pittsburgh Pirates Parrot will also make an appearance to entertain fans.

POWER POINTS: Reese McGuire and Erich Weiss have been selected for to play in the 55th South Atlantic League All-Star Game on June 17 at Hickory's L.P. Frans Stadium. Both players were selected as reserves... Jared Lakind has yet to appear in a game that the Power have won this season... Grasshoppers hitters knocked out 18 hits on Monday; the most surrendered in any one game by the Power pitching staff this season...

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh doubled up the Chicago Cubs 4-2. Andrew McCutchen hit his tenth home run of the year to give the Buccos an early edge... Indianapolis beat Durham 2-1. Robert Andino and Brent Morel drove the Indians runs... Altoona's game with Portland was suspended and will resume prior to today's regualrly scheduled game... Bradenton and Palm Beach played three innings before rain suspended there game.
