KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Greensboro starting pitcher Matt Milroy matched his career-high with nine strikeouts over 6.0 scoreless innings as the Grasshoppers beat the Kannapolis Intimidators, 5-2, on Thursday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.

Milroy (6-3) walked the first batter he faced and plunked another later in the first inning before settling down to strike out the side. He went on to fan another Intimidator in the second, two more in both the third and fourth innings, and whiffed Hunter Jones in the fifth to equal his career mark, the third time this season he has struck out nine.

In the fifth inning, Greensboro put men on first and second base with two outs when J.T. Riddle grounded a ball through the legs of second baseman Christian Stringer. The error allowed Juan Avila to score for a 1-0 lead. Justin Bohn followed with a two-run triple and scored on Felix Munoz's double to turn the fielding miscue into a 4-0 advantage. Joel Jimenez, who added an RBI-single i the eighth inning for the Grasshoppers, paced their offense by going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Jake Sanchez kept the Grasshoppers off the board over the first four innings before giving up a quartet of unearned runs in the fifth. He took the hard-luck loss for Kannapolis, allowing four unearned runs on six hits while walking two and striking out three. Sanchez will represent the Intimidators in Tuesday's All-Star Game in Hickory.

Kannapolis (29-35) threatened to get on the board in the fifth inning when Kale Kiser led off with a triple, but he was later thrown out at home plate trying to score on a Cleuluis Rondon flyout to left field.

The Intimidators rallied for a pair of runs in the ninth inning as Kiser drove in Jacob Morris and Jeremy Dowdy with his second triple of the game. Kiser is the first Intimidators player to hit two triples in a game since Keenyn Walker, the White Sox supplemental first round pick in the June 2011 First-Year Player Draft, on July 1, 2012, at Rome. Kiser finished the game 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.

The Intimidators return to action on Friday night against the Grasshoppers for Game 2 of this 4-game series to wrap up the first half. James Dykstra, who missed his last start, returns to the mound for the Intimidators to face Greensboro's Max Garner.
