
WV Black Bears Win One of Three against Hudson Valley Renegades

July 11- The WV Black Bears fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades 6-1 in the first game of a three game series on the road Monday night at Dutchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls, NY. Despite the loss, SS Stephen Alemais (2-4) continued his hitting streak for the Black Bears. He has now hit in 5 consecutive games extending his average to .286 with 2 RBI since July 8th. Alemais had a pair of singles, one that would help to bring in the Black Bears' one run of the night.
West Virginia's starter, P Cam Vieaux (0-1) took the loss after throwing five innings, allowing 3 hits, 3 runs (earned), walking and striking out one. Hudson Valley starter, P Travis Ott (2-0) earned the win after going six innings, allowing 1 hit, no runs and knocking out 6.
The Renegades took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third when 1B Nathaniel Lowe doubled to center, scoring two runs. Hudson Valley extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth and sixth bringing in a combined four runs to score, giving the Renegades a 6-0 lead.
The WV Black Bears got on the board in the top of the seventh as 1B Albert Baur had a sac fly to score Alemais. West Virginia still trailed 6-1.
Renegades reliever, P JD Busfield threw three innings, allowing 1 hit, one earned run and struck out two in route to give Hudson Valley a 6-1 win.
July 12- The WV Black Bears scored in the top of the seventh to hold off a ninth inning rally to beat the Hudson Valley Renegades 1-0 Tuesday night. The win evened the series and moves the WV Black Bears record to 11-14.
The game was scoreless into the seventh before the WV Black Bears broke through against the Renegades P Garret Fulenchek (0-3). With bases loaded and two outs, a wild pitch by Fulenchek allowed 1B Albert Baur to score giving West Virginia a 1-0 lead.
WV Black Bears' pitching had a great performance Tuesday. Starting pitcher, Matt Anderson threw three innings, giving up only 3 hits and knocking out five batters. The relief pitching staff had a combined six strikeouts and gave up only four hits in six innings pitched. The WV Black Bears held off the Renegades to take game two with a 1-0 final with P Luis Escobar taking the win.
July 13- Wednesday's game got off to a strong start as the WV Black Bears held a 2-1 lead through the top of the fifth. However, the momentum shifted as the Renegades scored a combined eight runs through the bottom of the seventh, giving up only one additional run to the Bears, leading the Renegades to win game three 10-3.
LF Hunter Owen led the Black Bears at the plate going 2-3 extending his batting avg. to .283. C Arden Pabst went 1-3 with an RBI. SS Stephen Alemais added to his hitting streak Wednesday, going 5-11 in the series.
Starting pitcher for the Black Bears, P Stephan Meyer (1-3) acquired the loss giving up 5 hits, 4 runs (earned), and striking out two in six innings pitched. Hudson Valley's starter, P Eduar Lopez(3-1) grabbed the win allowing 5 hits, two runs (earned) and knocking out three in five innings.
The WV Black Bears will be home at Monongalia County Ballpark tomorrow, July 14,th for their second home matchup against the Auburn Doubledays. Thursday's game will start at 7:05pm. The WV Black Bears will be hosting a mug giveaway night for the first 1,000 fans in attendance presented by Dunkin' Donuts.
