Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

ABERDEEN, MD - July 13, 2016 - It was a total team effort on Wednesday evening, as eight of the nine Cyclones players collected a hit as the Cyclones completed a three-game sweep of the Aberdeen IronBirds with a 6-2 victory. 1B Pete Alonso hit his first professional home run and finished with three RBI to pace the Brooklyn bats.

Brooklyn was able to get their offense moving early as leadoff batter, Michael Paez, walked during his first at bat of his professional career to start the game and came around to score when Alonso cleared the bases, knocking a two-run homer over the left field fence to give the Cyclones an early 2-0 lead.

Gabriel Llanes (1-3) had a solid start for Brooklyn, holding the Ironbirds scoreless through the first two innings of play. He was awarded the win after throwing 7.0 strong frames, giving up only two runs on seven hits whilst striking out a career- high seven. The right hander ran into his lone bit of trouble in the third inning. Back-to-back singles from Stuart Levy and Ronarsy Ledesma started the frame and put runners on the corners before Collin Woody plated Aberdeen's first run with an RBI groundout. Woody would come home to score later in the frame when the Cyclones threw down to second to catch Cole Billingsley stealing, but allowed the IronBirds third baseman to scamper home and knot the score at 2-2.

The tie wouldn't last long however, as Jacob Zanon connected on a solo home to open up the fourth inning. Brooklyn was able to further their lead after Ali Sanchez smoked a double to right field that was shortly followed by a Jay Jabs RBI single that made it 4-2.

Brooklyn tacked on a run in the fifth with an RBI single from Pete Alonso and another in the seventh on a Jacob Zanon RBI double to make the final score 6-2.

Austin McGeorge and Gary Cornish each tossed a scoreless frame out of the bullpen to close out the win. With their victory, Brooklyn moved to 13-13 and extended their winning streak to four games.

The Cyclones return home Thursday night July 14th to welcome the Lowell Spinners for a three game series. Harol Gonzalez will take the mound for the Cyclones as the first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The first 2,500 fans will receive Brooklyn Bridge jerseys as part of our first "Jersey Thursday" of the season. Tickets, which start at just $10, are still available by calling 718-507-TIXX, visiting BrooklynCyclones.com or in person at the MCU Park Box Office.
