Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - Edmonton Oil Kings leading scorer Michael St. Croix set up three of his team's four goals, including Dylan Wruck's game-winner, as the Oil Kings edged the Calgary Hitmen 4-3 on Wednesday night at Rexall Place.
St. Croix's third assist of the night and 24th point of the season led to Wruck's game-winner with 6:28 left in the game to push the Oil Kings past the Hitmen and give them revenge from Calgary's 3-2 win at the Saddledome on Tuesday. With two Hitmen in the penalty box, Wruck circled into the slot and fired a wrist shot top-shelf on Hitmen goalie Brandon Glover for his 10th of the year and team-leading third game-winner.
There were 14 power plays during Tuesday's game in Calgary, and the man advantage played a crucial role again on Wednesday. The Hitmen scored all three of their goals on the power play, but Wruck's five-on-three tally was the one that made the difference for the victorious Oil Kings, who improved to 9-14-0-1.
The Oil Kings scored two goals just 25 seconds apart to take a commanding 2-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. T.J. Foster tallied his fourth of the season 1:10 into the game, one-timing a feed from behind the net by St. Croix. Rhett Rachinski then scored his first of the year just 25 seconds later, converting on the rebound from a shot by Klarc Wilson.
The Hitmen made it a one-goal game with 3:30 to go in the opening frame on power-play goals by Tyler Fiddler and Cody Sylvester, and Justin Kirsch scored his team's third straight PPG to make it 3-2 Hitmen with 16:04 left in the third. But Kristians Pelss tallied the equalizer for his second of the year with 12:44 to go to make it 3-3. Foster drove hard to net and was stopped, but the Edmonton Oilers 2010 draft pick Pelss was there to convert on the rebound.
Oil Kings goalie Jon Groenheyde stopped every even-strength shot he faced, giving up the three power-play goals and making 32 saves to earn the victory. The Oil Kings put four goals past Glover, who made 27 saves between the Hitmen pipes.
The Oil Kings' Hot To Huddle Grey Cup Growwwl is next up on Friday with a 7 p.m. game against the Vancouver Giants. The Oil Kings will be wearing their Grey Cup Growwwl jerseys that game, and the game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off that night with proceeds going to the Oil Kings Education Association. Members of the Edmonton Eskimos will also be in attendance to meet fans and sign autographs. There will also be a Punt, Pass & Kick competition during the first and second intermissions, with one fan winning $1,000 in groceries from the Oil Kings and Save-On-Foods.
