Wranglers' Road-Trip Wraps up with 3-2 Loss
March 19, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - The Las Vegas Wranglers closed out a six-game road-trip with a tough 3-2 loss in Bakersfield on Tuesday night. Despite throwing 30 shots at Condors' goaltender Laurent Brossoit, including outshooting Bakersfield 13-6 in the second period, Las Vegas saw their record fall to 3-3-0 on the two-week long road swing.
For six-straight games Las Vegas had netted the first goal of the contest, but the Condors would buck the trend as Greg Miller (20) gave Bakersfield a 1-0 lead, 8:22 into the first period. Assists on the goal, the score of the period, came from Ryan Watson (9) and Jordan Knackstedt (23).
The Wranglers would knot the game up 1-1 midway through the second period, as Las Vegas local Eddie DelGrosso uncorked a one-timer from range for his third goal of the season. Assists on the score would go to John Armstrong (12) and Chad Nehring (12), his 22nd point in his last 21 games (14g, 8a). Bakersfield would answer right back though as just two minutes later Miller (21) potted his second of the night, to put the Condors back on top 2-1. The goal, which came on the power-play, was assisted by George Hughes (15) and Chris Collins (26). With just 36 seconds left in the period Bakersfield would extend their lead to 3-1 as Nick MacNeil scored his first professional goal, assisted by Matt Thurber (24) and Jordan Heywood (2).
Late in the third period Wranglers' forward Robbie Smith would cut the lead to 3-2 with his eighth goal of the year, assisted by Nehring (13) and Geoff Paukovich (9). The goal, which was Las Vegas' second power-play score of the night, gave the Wranglers a fighting chance with just 1:32 to remaining, but the Condors would hang on, winning by a final score of 3-2.
With their six-game road swing concluded, the Wranglers finally return back to Las Vegas on Thursday, Mar. 20 to take on the Alaska Aces. They will then host their fourth annual " Regrettable Tattoo Night " on Saturday March, 22 against the Colorado Eagles, featuring the stars of A&E's "Bad Ink," as well as a free post-game concert by Great American Taxi. The three-game home stand then finishes up with a 2:05 matinee game and a free post-game skate on Sunday, Mar. 23 as the Wranglers take on the Condors once again.
