Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - G Cody Reichard stopped 46 shots and F Jacob Cepis tallied four points as the Solar Bears took a 5-4 victory over the Fort Wayne Komets at the Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday night.
Orlando used an early power play chance to get out to a quick start in the opening frame. F Brad Ross took a cross-ice feed from F Mickey Lang and snapped the puck into the top corner at 3:05 for the power play tally. D Eric Baier followed up that goal with one of his own just 2:41 later, taking a pass from Cepis at the left point and firing a one-timer just inside the left post as the Solar Bears grabbed a 2-0 advantage. Fort Wayne found a way to cut the score in half at 7:45 when LW Mike Embach knocked in his first goal of the period, and then on a late period power play RW Shane Szydlowski deflected a shot from D Jordan Southorn to tie the game at 2-2 with 5:14 left. As time was winding down in the frame, Fort Wayne grabbed the lead when Embach took a pass from RW Brandon Marino and put a backhand shot into the cage with 17.6 seconds left as the Komets led 3-2 after one.
29 seconds into the middle frame, Orlando knotted the score at 3-2. F Mickey Lang took a pass from Cepis on the right side of the slot and whipped the puck into the top left corner of the cage. D Connor Goggin then restored the advantage for the Solar Bears with 2:49 left in the period on a one-time shot from the right point, as Orlando took a 4-3 lead into the third.
The Solar Bears expanded their lead less than three minutes into the third. Lang collected a loose puck behind the net, found Cepis open in the high slot, and blasted a slap shot into the top right corner as the Solar Bears picked up the 5-3 advantage. Less than a minute later, Embach completed his hat trick bid for the Komets when his shot from the low shot found the back of the net. Solar Bears G Cody Reichard came up with 16 of 17 saves in the frame and stopped 46 of the 50 shots he faced in the contest as the Solar Bears held off the late Komets attack to earn the 5-4 victory.
