Wouters & Blades Celebrate Pokecheck's Birthday with 8-3 Win
October 26, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
Saskatoon, SK - The Saskatoon Blades used a huge second period to beat the Winnipeg ICE 8-3 for the first time this season as the teams played their third straight game against one another on Friday night in Saskatoon. 11 different Blades notched a point in the victory which saw the home team score five goals in the second period as part of a greater sequence that saw Saskatoon score seven straight goals.
Four different Blades had career nights including team Captain Chase Wouters (3G-0A) who registered his first career hat-trick, Czech import defender Radek Kucerik (0G-2A) who had his best night in the Western Hockey League with his first multi-point game while the same went for Majid Kaddoura (0G-3A) who had his second multi-point night of the season and now has 6 points in his last 4 games. Colton Dach (0G-2A) also had his first multi-point game of his young career.
Saskatoon opened the scoring on the power play as Wouters got his first of three of the night in the slot, redirecting a Scott Walford point shot via Kyle Crnkovic. Winnipeg would score the next two to take a 2-1 lead into the second period and appeared to threaten a similar performance to their last two games out East.
However, the next goal belonged to Saskatoon as 8 minutes into the second period Eric Florchuk used his speed and strength to out-skate and fend-off three members of the ICE and tie the game at 2-all in a fantastic individual effort in his 200th career WHL game.

The Blades took the lead just 1:10 later as Colton Dach brilliantly found Zach Huber in the slot to put the Blades up by one. Saskatoon capped off a span of three goals in 1:45 as Randen Schmidt wrapped the puck behind the net where it bounced off the boards and onto the end of Jayden Wiens' stick. The Carrot River product then slipped the puck in on a tight angle for his third goal of the season and doubled Saskatoon's lead.
The home side then added two more goals in the 2nd as Libor Zabransky threw a puck on net which went through the five hole of the ICE goaltender to make the Blades lead 5-2 before Tristen Robins added a goal of his own to make the Blades lead at the end of the 2nd read 6-2.
It was the Chase Wouters show in the 3rd period as he scored two more goals to complete the first hat-trick of his career. Wouters now leads the Blades with 8 goals to go with a league leading 215 face-offs won, 45 more than the next highest face-off man in the league as of Friday night.
The win capped of a great night of Birthday Celebrations for the team's mascot, Pokecheck, who turned One in Yeti years on the 25th of October 2019.
