Notes:
Captain Schultz: Prior to tonight's game, the Royals announced 19-year-old import forward Phillip Schultz as the team's captain. Schultz, a native of Rodovre, Denmark is now the seventh captain in Royals' history. He is also the first European-born player to be named captain in the WHL since Marcus Jonasen (Orebo, Sweden) captained the Tri-City Americans during the 2004-05 season.
At the Barn on Blanshard: Prior to tonight's game, the Royals had won eight straight regular season home contests versus the Blazers. Previously, Victoria's last defeat to Kamloops at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre took place on February 11, 2017.
400: With tonight's victory, Kamloops head coach Shaun Clouston recorded his 400th career win in the WHL. In his career, Clouston has coached the Blazers, Medicine Hat Tigers and Tri-City Americans.
Island Connections: The Blazers have a trio of Victoria, BC products on their roster in defencemen Sean Strange and Ethan Brandwood, as well as goaltender Dylan Garand. Strange and Brandwood both played their minor hockey with Saanich Minor Hockey Association, while Garand is a product of the Juan de Fuca Minor Hockey Association. Brandwood also spent time with both the Victoria and Victoria Racquet Club Minor Hockey Associations.
