
Oil Kings Get Past T-Birds

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-2 Saturday night at Rogers Place.
The T-Birds play the Calgary Hitmen on Monday at 5pm at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Edmonton (10-1-3-0) took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Josh Williams at 12:02 of the first period.
Former T-Birds defenseman Ethan Bear joined play-by-play voice Thom Beuning during the first intermission of the game broadcast on 1090 KJR. Bear is a rookie defenseman this season on the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers selected Bear in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Draft. Listen to Thom interview Ethan.
The Oil Kings made it a 3-0 lead with goals by Dylan Guenther at 3:47 and Conner McDonald at 12:09 of the second period.
Seattle (4-5-2-1) started the comeback late in the second period with two goals in 1:04.
Michael Horon passed the puck to Matthew Wedman in the right circle. Wedman put a backhand shot on Edmonton goalie Sebastian Cossa with Henrik Rybinski going hard to the net. The puck rebounded off into the low slot and Rybinski chipped it past the goalie from in close at 13:44.
Wedman cut the Oil Kings lead to one goal at 14:48 of the second. He skated down the left wing and beat Cossa with a wrist shot from the left circle for his fourth goal of the season. Zach Ashton and Ryan Gottfried had the assists.
Guenther scored at 6:27 of the third and Riley Sawchuk scored at 9:23 to give Edmonton a 5-2 lead. Guenther added an empty-net goal at 18:58 of the third.
The T-Birds next game is Friday, November 8, against the Kamloops Blazers at 7:35pm at accesso ShoWare Center. Single game tickets are on sale online on the T-Birds website and at the accesso ShoWare Center box office.
The T-Birds are now taking orders for Flex-24 Ticket packages. Fans that purchase the 24-Flex Ticket Package will be able to select any available premium seat for any game, in any ticket combination, during the 2019-20 season.
