Worcester IceCats News Release

WORCESTER, MA - Just one day following the establishment of the new Divisional and Conference alignments, the American Hockey League (AHL) released its 2002-2003 schedule format depicting frequency of play between teams. This season's IceCats schedule will provide fans with games against our traditional New England and Division rivals, as well as six previously un-opposed squads.

The AHL's new Divisional alignment will see Worcester square-off against North Division foes a total of 17 times during the regular season at Worcester's Centrum Centre, highlighted by five matches against the Rhode Island-based Bruins. The 'Cats will face off eight times each against fellow North Division opponents Manchester, Lowell and Portland (four home/four road). The IceCats and Springfield Falcons will collide eight times (four home/four road), while playing the Hartford Wolf Pack four times (two home/two road) and regular season points champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers twice, one at home and one in Connecticut.

The 2002-03 schedule format features the IceCats first-ever meetings with the Cleveland Barons (one home/one road), Milwaukee Admirals (one home/one road), Utah Grizzlies (two home/two road), as well as two tilts (one home/ one road) against the newly crowned 2002 Calder Cup-champion Chicago Wolves. This season will also feature the first meeting between Worcester and the new Binghamton, NY based squad. The Manitoba Moose, Saint John Flames, and St. John's Maple Leafs will each see the IceCats four times (two home/two road).

The AHL's playoff format will be released following the AHL Annual Meetings in mid-July. The entire 2002-2003 League schedule, complete with dates, will be ratified and subsequently released in early August.
