AHL announces 2002-03 schedule format

Providence, RI -- The American Hockey League today announced its schedule format for the upcoming 2002-03 season, the 67th in League history. Each club in the AHL will play an unbalanced 80-game regular season schedule, beginning on Thursday, October 10, 2002 and concluding on Sunday, April 6, 2003. The format for the Calder Cup Playoffs will be determined at the AHL Annual Meeting in mid-July, while the complete regular season schedule will be announced in early August.

The Providence Bruins will face off against 12 different opponents, all in the Eastern Conference, during the 2002-03 regular season. The Black and Gold will play half its schedule against its four North Division rivals. They will battle the Lowell Lock Monsters, Manchester Monarchs, Portland Pirates and Worcester IceCats 10 times apiece. In addition, the P-Bruins will take on two of their traditional rivals, the East Division's Hartford Wolf Pack and Springfield Falcons, 10 times, as well. The Bruins will also meet two teams for the first time. They will take on the Canadian Division's Manitoba Moose four times, and the expansion Binghamton Senators twice.
