
Wood's Walk-Off Blast Lifts Power over Greensboro

(Charleston, WV, May 1, 2013): The West Virginia Power defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers 6-3 Wednesday evening at Appalachian Power Park. The Power scored four in the bottom of the ninth, including three on a walk-off home run by Eric Wood.
In the first inning, West Virginia scored a run on a bases-loaded fielder's choice by Wood that scored Barrett Barnes. Greensboro later responded in the third when Juancito Martinez hit an RBI triple to tie the game 1-1.
The Grasshoppers struck again with one run in the fifth and seventh to make the score 3-1. The Power cut the deficit to one when Jon Schwind scored from third on a balk by Greensboro pitcher Jheyson Manzueta.
In the bottom of the ninth, Walker Gourley led off the inning with a single. Dilson Herrera later drove Gourley in with an RBI-single to right to tie the game. With two outs and two-on, Wood hit the walk-off home run, scoring Herrera and Stetson Allie.
Jason Creasy (2-0) earned the win for West Virginia by tossing a hitless ninth inning. Blake Logan took the loss (1-2) with his third blown save this season. Power starter Joely Rodriguez received a no-decision after throwing six innings, allowing two runs (one earned), on four hits, while striking out six.
West Virginia and Greensboro continue their three-game series Thursday night. Clay Holmes will pitch for the Power against Scott Lyman for Greensboro. First pitch for Thursday's game is scheduled for 7:05.
