Shorebirds Fall in Game One to Legends, 3-1

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (13-13) managed just two hits as the Lexington Legends (10-16) took game one, 3-1, at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Legends took an early 3-0 lead in the first. Shorebirds starter Matt Taylor struck out the first two batters of the game. Bubba Starling reached on a single up the middle. Then, Michael Antonio got on base on a throwing error by Adrian Marin. After a walk to Jin-Ho Shin, Humberto Arteaga hit a triple to center field to give the Legends a 3-0 edge.

Shorebirds starter Matt Taylor allowed three unearned runs over six innings. He gave up just three hits. Taylor struck out seven and walked three.

The Shorebirds got on the board in the seventh inning. Christian Walker reached on an error by third baseman Michael Antonio. He reached second on a passed ball and scored on a two out double down the right field line by Torsten Boss.

Lexington starter Miguel Almonte did not allow a hit over his first five innings and gave up just one over six scoreless innings. Almonte struck out nine batters.

Legends reliever Alec Mills tossed three innings to pick up his third save of the season.

Shorebirds reliever Matt Hobgood hurled three hitless and scoreless innings. He walked two and struck out two.

The Shorebirds and Legends play game two of the series on Thursday, May 2 at 7:05pm. RHP Branden Kline is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
