LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws (8-17) picked up a pair in the seventh and hung on late to take down the Charleston RiverDogs (13-11) 4-3 Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Park. The win snapped a four game losing streak for the BlueClaws and upped their home record to 4-8.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, the BlueClaws broke out for two runs on two big hits.

Chace Numata led off the frame, and broke up a string of eight in a row retired, with a solo home run to right that put Lakewood in front. For Numata it was his first home run on the year and third professional blast of his career.

With two down, it was Willie Carmona who plated Larry Greene, Jr. from first on an RBI double to left-center that doubled the lead at 4-2.

The RiverDogs attempted to climb back, but were held to just one run in the eighth. Gregory Bird led off the inning with a double and Dante Bichette, Jr followed with a single to left. Bird scored the unearned run, on the play after the ball escaped the grasp of the catcher Numata and made its way to the backstop on the relay.

Steven Inch took over for Miguel Nunez and locked down the win, and his second save, with a scoreless ninth.

The offense started early for the BlueClaws as they loaded the bases on three straight walks in the first, courtesy of RiverDogs starter Evan Rutckyj.

Rutckyj induced a double play from Carmona, but Brian Pointer followed with a two-run single that gave the 'Claws the early 2-run lead. The Charleston starter pitched a scoreless second and a perfect third, before his night came to an end in the fourth. The southpaw gave up just the two runs, on four hits, but he walked six and struck out two.

The RiverDogs were kept off the score sheet until the fifth, against Yoel Mecias. Angleo Mora took Carmona off the bag at first on a ball hit by Yeicock Calderon for a leadoff error, which broke up a string of seven in a row retired by Mecias.

The pitcher walked Kelvin de Leon, before Reymond Nunez doubled home the first run for Charleston, and cut the Lakewood lead in half. Claudio Custodio followed with an RBI single that tied the game and forced Mecias to waiver further.

The lefty could not make it out of the fifth, and left with two down, before handing the ball to Miguel Nunez. Nunez escaped the inning without any more damage done.

Mecias went the first four and one-third, allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits; he walked two and struck out a career-high eight. Nunez (3-0) earned the win in relief, his third win in a row, with his three and one-third innings of two-hit, one-run ball.
