(SALISBURY, Md.) Lexington pitchers Miguel Almonte and Alec Mills held Delmarva to two hits, and Humberto Arteaga's three-run triple in the first inning provided all the offense needed as the Legends took the opener of a three-game series with the Shorebirds 3-1 Wednesday night.

With two outs and no one on base in the first inning, Bubba Starling singled, and Michael Antonio reached on an error by shortstop Adrian Marin. After Starling stole third and Antonio moved to second on a wild pitch, Jin-Ho Shin walked, loading the bases. Arteaga followed with a line drive to center field, where the ball got past Greg Lorenzo, who tried for a diving catch. The bases-clearing triple put the Legends up 3-0.

Arteaga's fourth-inning single was the only other Legends' hit.

Almonte (1-3) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before leadoff batter Tucker Nathans tripled to right field. But Almonte struck out Anthony Vega for the first out of the inning. Lorenzo walked and stole second, but Almonte got Marin on a called third strike, and Joel Hutter grounded out to end the inning.

Almonte struck out nine batters and walked three in six innings as he gained his first victory of the year.

Mills pitched the last three innings and earned his third save.

Delmarva scored its only run in the seventh inning when Christian Walker reached first on a throwing error by third baseman Antonio and scored on a two-out double by Torsten Boss.

Delmarva starter Matt Taylor (1-2) took the loss. He allowed three hits in six innings, struck out seven batters and walked three.

All four runs scored in the game were unearned.

The Legends and Shorebirds will play game two of the three-game series Thursday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
