Woodchucks Walk off on Growlers 10-9

Wausau, WIS - In a game that saw 37 hits, 19 runs, and a five-run ninth inning rally, the Wisconsin Woodchucks defeated the Kalamazoo Growlers 10-9.

With Paul DeJong on second base and one out, Kevin Connolly hit a single to right field that brought home DeJong to plate the game winning run in a four hour and forty-five minute marathon at Athletic Park.

The Woodchucks came to the bottom of the ninth facing a five run deficit and batted around in the inning to tie the game up at eight. Three consecutive hits brought home the Woodchucks' first run in the rally when Brendon Hayden hit a single to the right-center field gap plating Troy Traxler. With the bases loaded, Jake Scudder hit a grounder through the right side of the infield to cut the lead to 8-6. Zach Arnold then pinched hit for Jack Klages and came through in the clutch hitting a single to left field bringing home two runners and more importantly tying the game up at eight.

Troy Montgomery then answered for the Growlers in the top of the tenth inning when Troy Montgomery drove the second pitch he saw over the center field wall giving the Growlers a 9-8 lead.

Traxler again led the inning off with a double down the left field line to get into scoring position. After reaching third on a Jake Jefferies ground, Traxler came into score on a balk by Growlers' pitcher Shane Bryant tying the game at nine. The next run scored in the game would be the walk-off run in the bottom of the fifteenth inning by the Woodchucks.

The Woodchucks and Growlers will finish their two-game series at Athletic Park tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 7:05.
