Madison Mallards News Release
Green Bay, WI - June 27, 2014. The Madison Mallards (16-11) finish their two game road series tonight in Green Bay against the Green Bay Bullfrogs (13-17) at 7:05 pm. Mallards starter Tyler Buffett (Oklahoma State) will look to help the Mallards bounce back against Green Bay starter Mike Ellenbest (Saginaw Valley State) after Madison fell to the Bullfrogs last night 5-2.
Buffett will make his second start of the year tonight after pitching one inning on June 19th against the Battle Creek Bombers before the game was rained out. He has appeared in relief once this year for the club, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings on June 23rd against the Alexandria Blue Anchors in a 2-0 victory. The righty struck out two while giving up no hits and walking none.
Ellenbest, a 6'4", 195-pound righty out of Medina, Ohio has pitched 15 innings for the Bullfrogs this year, holding a 6.60 ERA in three starts. His last game against the Kalamazoo Growlers on June 14th, Ellenbest went five innings, giving up five runs on six hits, walking one while striking out two.
Last night, the Mallards were held to three hits but managed to score two runs in the second inning when Will Krug (Illinois) scored on a wild pitch and Pete Alonso (Florida) drove in Cody Stevens (Northwestern) on a single after Stevens advanced to third on the wild pitch. Alonso was 1-for-3 on the night and recorded his 18th RBI after scoring Stevens.
Green Bay would respond with two runs of their own in the third and three in the seventh. With the loss, the Mallards fall to 3.5 games out of first place with five games left in the first half of the Northwoods League season.
The Mallards return home tomorrow to face the Lakeshore Chinooks at 6:05 pm. Saturday night is 80's Night featuring an appearance by Jose Canseco in a post-game home run derby. There will also be a Capitol View Events Pre-Game 1985K.
