
Bullfrogs Sweep Mallards, Win Third Straight

Green Bay, Wis. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs and Madison Mallards played game two of their two-game series on Friday night at Joannes Stadium. After losing a 3-1 lead to the Mallards in the seventh inning, the Bullfrogs regained the lead in the same inning by scoring two runs and shutdown the Mallards the rest of the way to earn a 5-4 victory.
After losing the lead to Madison in the top half of the seventh inning, the Bullfrogs regained the lead by scoring two runs in the same inning to take a 5-4 lead. Matt Beaty (Belmont) reached on an error to start the inning before pinch-hitter Matthew de la Rosa (Lenoir-Rhyne) followed with a single to put runners on first and third. After de la Rosa moved to second on a passed ball, Brian Celsi (California) came through with a two RBI single that scored Beaty and de la Rosa to give the Bullfrogs the 5-4 lead.
Cody Pollack (Midland) pitched the final five outs for the Bullfrogs, giving up no runs and just one hit to the Mallards to earn the save.
Jake Stolley (Northwestern) threw one inning of relief out of the bullpen to pick up the win for Green Bay.
Nathan Hoffmann (Madison College) took the loss for the Mallards on Friday.
Down 3-1, the Mallards took the lead back in the seventh inning, scoring three runs on two hits. Will Krug (Illinois) started the inning with a walk and scored the first run for the Mallards in the inning on an error by the Bullfrogs. Alex Bacon (North Florida) then hit a single that scored two runs to give the Mallards a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Before the seventh inning, Green Bay took a 3-1 lead by scoring one run in the second, fourth, and sixth innings. In the second inning, Ryan Koziol (Gulf Coast State) reached on a double and came home to score on an Ivan Vieitez (Lenoir-Rhyne) RBI single.
In the fourth inning Koziol started things again with a single and advanced to second on a stolen base. He moved up ninety feet to third base on a ground out and came home to score on a wild pitch.
Two innings later in the sixth inning, the Bullfrogs scored one more run to pull ahead 3-1. Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State) reached on a single, stole second base, and moved up to third on a sacrifice bunt. Vieitez then recorded his second RBI on the night, scoring Bekakis on a single.
Vieitez finished the night 3-for-4 with two RBI's, while Koziol went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Celsi and Beaty also had two hits apiece for the Bullfrogs on Friday night.
Mike Ellenbest (Saginaw Valley State) started on the mound for the Bullfrogs and earned a no decision after throwing seven innings while giving up just one run on seven hits.
Tyler Buffett (Oklahoma State) earned a no decision for the Mallards, throwing five and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs on eight hits.
The Bullfrogs win was the 597th career victory for Green Bay's head coach, Darrell "Skip" Handelsman.
Green Bay will now face the Duluth Huskies on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 6:05 PM from Joannes Stadium.
