Wausau Woodchucks News Release
Wausau, WIS - The Wisconsin Woodchucks took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and capitalized on sloppy play from the Duluth Huskies to win 7-1.
The Woodchucks (8-6) pitching staff flirted with history as the Huskies (4-10) didn't find their first hit until the top of the eighth inning when Vinnie Rodriguez broke up the no-hitter and shutout in one swing of the bat which was a home run that barely stayed fair down the left field line.
A pair of Husky errors loaded the bases in the bottom of the second inning and Jack Klages drew a walk to bring in a runner to give the Woodchucks a 1-0 lead.
The Woodchucks added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Troy Traxler came into score when Ka'ai Tom hit a sacrifice fly deep enough.
In the next inning, the Woodchucks added two more runs. The first came from a home run from Woodchucks' first baseman Brendon Hayden. Traxler then drove in Nick Banks on a single to right field.
The Woodchucks added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth to distance themselves from the Huskies.
