
Rox complete sweep of Blue Anchors

Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release
Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors fell to the St. Cloud Rox Monday night by a score of 9-1 at Knute Nelson Memorial Park. The sweep by the Rox puts the Anchors' record at 3-11.
The Rox quickly jumped on board in the first against Jason Zgardowski by scoring a run on a Clay Ardeeser single to bring home Bradley Strong who reached on an error.
In the bottom of the frame, Jordan Lee and Craig Nennig singled to put two on. A double play moved Lee to third and he came around to score on a Roman Collins double to knot the score at one.
In the fourth, the Rox broke the game open as they scored six runs on five hits. Charles Galiano, Eric Loxtercamp, Strong and Chris Paul all drove in runs to make the score 7-1.
Andrew Thome came in to pitch in the fifth inning and he allowed a single to Mitchell Kranson and a double to Kyle Thornell to put two in scoring position. A base hit from Loxtercamp brought home Kranson putting the Rox up 8-1.
Another miscue in the field led to an unearned run in the sixth as an error by Nennig allowed Paul to reach and eventually came around on a Kranson double giving the final score of 9-1.
Zgardowski finished the night throwing four innings allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and three walks with one strikeout. In five innings of relief, Thome gave up four hits and a walk leading to two runs (one earned). He struck out four batters.
Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Andrew Thome (RHP) - The northpaw now has pitched at least four innings in three of his five appearances and has struck out 18 batters, which is tied for the Northwoods League lead.
