Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (2-11) hope to jump back into the win column going into their south division matchup with the La Crosse Loggers (8-5) on Monday night at 7:05pm at Copeland Park in La Crosse. With not even a quarter of the season gone however, they know they have plenty of time to turn their season around and get on the right track. That turnaround looks to start tonight in La Crosse as future Oklahoma Sooner left handed pitcher Hunter Raley will be on the mound making his much anticipated debut with the Rafters.
Raley completed a stellar freshman season at Murray State College where he went 11-5 with a 2.87 era and struck out 93 batters in 95.2 innings pitched. Raley then went 4-0 in the playoffs and was named the Most Valuable Pitcher of the NJCAA Division II College World Series, leading his team to a National Championship. His second season at Murray State College was also very impressive, as he went 9-3 with a 2.92 era and struck out 88 batters in 95.2 innings pitched. Raley was originally recruited out of Plano (Tx.) Senior High School to play in the Big 12 by TCU, but opted instead to attend Murray State College in Tishomingo, OK. He will still get his chance to pitch in the Big 12 however as he has signed with the University of Oklahoma to play next season.
After banging out 10 hits last night the Rafters look to stay hot at the plate tonight in La Crosse. Outfielder William Elliott is off to a strong start with the Rafters as he has recorded three hits in his first two games as well as drawing a pair of walks. Ryan Johnston will attempt to remain a thorn in the Loggers' side, as he is batting .300 against them with a double and a pair of runs scored.
The Rafters will return to Witter Field on Tuesday June 10 th to take on the Kalamazoo Growlers at 7:05pm. The gates will open at 6:05pm for Skyward Educators Appreciation Night in honor of Mr. Scott Sigourney of Woodside Elementary for being named Skyward's Central Wisconsin Teacher of the Year. The night will also include a bobblehead giveaway of Mr. Sigourney.
