Bangor Lumberjacks News Release

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks have come to terms with RHP Orlando Woodards, the Northeast League club announced today. To make room for Woodards on the roster, the Jacks released OF Edwin Thompson.

Woodards, a 6'2, 200 pound fireballer, pitched this season with the Calgary (AL) Outlaws of the independent Canadian Baseball League. The League decided to suspend operations last week, making Woodards available for the Lumberjacks. In 14 innings pitched, Orlando had compiled a 2-0 record with a 2.57 ERA and five saves. The Sacramento, CA native struck out 14 and walked 10 on the year.

Woodards was originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 40th round of the 1996 draft, but was released by the Jays in 2001. The Florida Marlins claimed Orlando off waivers and as a member of the Portland Sea Dogs last season, he went 4-9 with a 3.52 ERA in 15 starts. He struck out 61 in 102.1 innings pitched, before earning a promotion to Triple-A Calgary, where he made one appearance, pitching one inning and getting the win for the Cannons.

He was a teammate of current Bangor Lumberjack Brandon Bowe last year.

Thompson hit .246 with six RBI in 22 games, serving mostly as a defensive replacement late in the game.

The Lumberjacks are back at Mahaney Diamond on Sunday August 3 to begin a seven game home stand. Sunday, August 3 is WEZQ 92.9 FM Family Fun Day meaning that fans have the opportunity to purchase a Jack Pack, which includes four reserved tickets to the game, four hot dogs, four programs, a pre-game ball toss on the field and a post game running of the bases and party piñata courtesy of Cumulus Broadcasting. Tickets are available by calling the Lumberjacks Ticket Office at (207) 947-1900 or by stopping in the Lumberjacks Pro Shop in the Bangor Mall.
