Wood Ducks Fall in Finale against the Pelicans

Down East Wood Ducks News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Andretty Cordero stayed hot at the plate despite the Wood Ducks' 8-3 loss in the finale to the Pelicans. Down East drops the series three games to one to Myrtle Beach ahead of Monday's off day.

Cordero collected three more hits in the defeat, pushing his hot streak to seven hits in his last eight at-bats - including three doubles.

The Woodies fell behind early as the Pelicans pounced on starter Christian Torres to the tune of four runs on four hits in the first. Myrtle Beach never looked back from there as they added three more in the second, and one in the third.

Torres would settle down over the next two frames as he would retire eight of his last nine batters. Cole Wiper emerged from the bullpen, and he collected two strikeouts over his two innings only facing one over the minimum.

Jairo Beras also worked a 1-2-3 inning from the bullpen in the eighth inning to complete a scoreless night for the bullpen. Down East got on the board in the seventh inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from Ricky Valencia and Josh Altmann added an RBI single.

In the ninth, Cordero added an RBI single to mark the score at 8-3 before the final. It marked his tenth run batted in on the young season.

Down East looks to rebound on Tuesday as they open a three-game series in Buies Creek with the Astros starting at 7:00 p.m.
