CALL'S SQUEEZE BUNT LIFTS DASH TO WIN

The Dash scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning - capped by a suicide squeeze bunt from Alex Call - to defeat the Salem Red Sox 4-3 in walk-off fashion on Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark. Winston-Salem trailed by two entering the final frame, but the ballclub quickly tied the game against Joan Martinez. First, Yermin Mercedes led off with a single to right and made it to third base on an error by the right fielder Tyler Hill. Zach Remillard followed with an RBI single to bring the Dash within a run. The next batter, Ti'Quan Forbes, tripled to right-center to knot the game at three. Following a walk to Mitch Roman and an intentional walk Joel Booker, Call stepped to the plate to deliver the knockout blow. Mike Morrison earned the victory, allowing one run in two hitless innings.

AN OUTFIELD OF STARS

Coming into the season, the Dash were slated to have one of the most talented outfields in Minor League Baseball. That has proven to be the case, with several Dash outfielders ranking among the best in the Carolina League in several different offensive categories. The Dash outfielders possess four of the top six batting averages in the circuit. Here's an overall look at the numbers in the Carolina League for this group:

Micker Adolfo: (.328 AVG, sixth), (three HRs, T-third), (14 RBIs, second), (.552 SLG, second), (nine extra-base hits, second)

Joel Booker: (.333 AVG, T-fourth)

Luis Basabe: (.339 AVG, third), (.627 SLG, first), (.443 OBP, third), (10 extra-base hits, 1st)

Blake Rutherford: (.373 AVG, first), (seven doubles, T-second)

FLEXING THAT MUSCLE

The Dash offense has staked their claim as the best in the 10-team circuit. Winston sits alone atop the Carolina League in several offensive categories, including batting average (.284), hits (164), on-base percentage (.376), slugging percentage (.449), doubles (41) and homers (14). Interestingly enough, Winston-Salem had only three home runs through the first nine games before exploding with 11 blasts over the last eight games.

HEY, SALEM

Sunday is the final game of a four-game set against the Salem Red Sox. Winston-Salem will square off against the Red Sox 21 times in 2018, the second-most games among all opponents this year. Winston-Salem will head to Haley Toyota Field for the first time from May 7-9. The Dash are 88-101-1 all-time against the Salem franchise.

WALK-OFF MAGIC

The Dash's three walk-off wins through their first 17 games mark the most for the ballclub in that span to start in the Dash era (2009-present). Here's a brief recap of all the victories so far:

4/12 vs. CAR: Dash win 3-2 in the home opener in 10 innings on Booker's steal of home plate

4/14 vs. CAR: Dash win 6-5 in 10 innings on Booker's suicide squeeze bunt

4/21 vs. SAL: Dash win 4-3 on Call's walk-off suicide squeeze bunt

IT'S BEEN A PLEASURE

Sunday's starter Bernardo Flores has registered six innings in each of his first three outings. After logging quality starts back-to-back times out, the lefty did struggle in his last outing, giving up five runs in a loss to Down East on Tuesday. Still, the former USC Trojan has pitched well at the High-A level as of late. Flores is 3-1 with a 3.40 ERA in his last eight starts with the Dash. Following a 14-game stint last year with Low-A Kannapolis, where he went 8-4 with a 3.00 ERA in 14 starts, Flores was bumped up to Winston-Salem on June 16.

DASH DOTS

Monday will be the first scheduled off day of the season in the Carolina League...The last time the Dash won back-to-back home series was in 2013, when Winston-Salem won two of three from Carolina before taking three of four from Wilmington...The Dash travel to Lynchburg on Tuesday to begin a six-game road swing... Winston will play a three-game set against the Hillcats, followed by three games in Wilmington.
