ROCKFORD, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves staged a two goal third period rally but it wasn't enough to overcome the 3-0 deficit they faced after 40 minutes of play as the Rockford IceHogs skated away with a 3-2 victory at the Rockford MetroCentre Wednesday night.

Trailing 3-0 entering the final frame, defenseman Nathan Oystrick put Chicago (11-11-0-1) on the board with a power-play goal at 7:48. Right wing Tim Stapleton took a shot from the point that rebounded out to left wing Brett Sterling. Sterling saw an open Oystrick in the slot and passed him the puck, which he sent home past Rockford netminder Joe Fallon, near-post.

Sterling brought the Wolves to within one with 7:25 remaining in the contest. Stapleton passed the puck back to defenseman Grant Lewis on the point. Lewis one-timed a shot which Sterling was able to redirect past Fallon for the goal.

Fallon (6-5-0) thwarted 24 of Chicago's 26 shots in the winning effort.

Rockford (12-11-2-1) opened the scoring at 11:38 of the first period. Left wing Kyle Greentree received a pass from right wing Jack Skille and then played a give-and-go with center Bracken Kearns before pushing the puck past Wolves netminder Peter Mannino for the 1-0 lead.

Rockford made their lead two just 2:33 later when the IceHogs took control of an offensive zone faceoff. Defenseman Jassen Cullimore received the puck on the point and passed it to Skille who then dished it off to Kearns. Kearns gave a short pass back to Skille and he wristed a shot over Mannino, stick-side.

Left wing Bryan Bickell gave Rockford a 3-0 lead with 2:38 remaining in the second period. Bickell skated the puck up the boards and into the zone before ripping a shot from the faceoff dot, top-shelf.

Mannino (3-1-0) recorded 27 saves for the Wolves.

The Wolves continue their regular season slate against the Lake Erie Monsters at the Allstate Arena on Fri., Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
