Manitoba Moose News Release

After falling to the Americans 4-1 on Tuesday night, the Moose got revenge and beat the Rochester club 2-1 in the rematch on Wednesday in front of 6,342 fans at MTS Centre. New addition Aaron Rome notched both goals for Manitoba while goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 26 of 27 shots.

On their first shot of the night and a mere 26 seconds into the match, the Amerks opened the scoring. Graham Mink maneuvered his way around a Moose defender and lightly backhanded the puck in between Schneider's legs, 1-0.

With 7:47 left in the first frame, Dan Sexton was awarded a penalty shot after being tripped on his first breakaway attempt. Sexton tried to deke goaltender Ryan Mior but shot the bullet over the cross-bar to hold on to Manitoba's one-goal deficit.

Manitoba earned the first powerplay of the night when Shawn Matthias was forced to serve a too-many men bench minor at 15:15. With 44 seconds left on the man-advantage, Rochester's Jordan Henry was penalized for slashing giving the Moose a five-on-three. Situated in front of Mior's net, Aaron Rome capitalized on a wrist shot from the high slot to get the Moose back on even ground.

Rochester earned their first powerplay 47 seconds into the second period when Nathan McIver was fined for cross-checking. Despite racking up three shots on the man-advantage, the visitors couldn't solve Manitoba's penalty kill code during the short two-minutes.

The Moose took the lead when Aaron Rome sliced the puck over Mior's right goal pad to earn his second of the night at 9:08.

The Moose and Amerks were neck-and-neck in shots, each firing 23 with three minutes left to play. Despite the visiting clubs last minute effort they could not force overtime and the Moose took a 2-1 victory over the first place Rochester.

LOOKING AHEAD The Moose embark on their fourth road trip of the season in Peoria on Friday night.
