Hogs Tracking Wolves, Third Straight Win
Published on December 2, 2009 under American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- Evidently no one told the Rockford IceHogs that the Thanksgiving feast ended last week.
Rockford (11-11-2-1 - 25 points) enters its rivalry matchup tonight with the Chicago Wolves (11-10-0-1 - 23 points) having scored nine goals in two wins over the weekend. The offensive output is the highest in back-to-back games in six weeks.
The Hogs and Wolves will drop the puck at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on WNTA 1330, ESPN 1380 and at www.wnta.com. It can be seen on Rockford Comcast Channel 57 or through AHL Live.
Tickets are available by phone at (815) 968-5222, on-line at metrocentre.com, at the Rockford MetroCentre Box Office and at Hogs Headquarters at Cherryvale Mall.
Fans can take advantage of $2 beers tonight at the MetroCentre. Bud Select 55 will be featured at two kiosks in the MetroCentre for just $2. Family Four Packs is also back tonight as fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, four soft drinks and four popcorns for just $44 at the MetroCentre Box Office.
The Hogs blasted the Heat for the second straight time at the MetroCentre by a 5-1 score on Saturday night. Five different Hogs scored and the team posted its season-high collective plus-minus rating at +25. Joe Fallon improved to 3-0-0 against the Heat as the Hogs took the season series 3-1-0-0.
That win came on the heels of a 4-3 escape act in Grand Rapids on Friday evening. Rockford took a 4-1 lead 1:57 into the third period on an Akim Aliu goal before holding down a one-goal lead over the last eight-plus minutes to win in regulation.
The Hogs look to take control in ten-game season series with the Wolves, hovering at 2-2-0-1 in the first five contests. The Hogs won a 1-0 defensive struggle at the Big Orange Box on Nov. 20. Rockford put 43 shots on Wolves puckstopper Drew MacIntyre, but only drew blood on Bracken Kearns' marker 7:31 into the third.
Get your tickets early, as the IceHogs welcome back any of those who attended last Wednesday's Guarantee Win Night loss to the Manitoba. Rockford couldn't pin down a 1-0 lead in the 2-1 loss to the Moose, marking the only game in a five-game stretch the Hogs haven't picked up a point.
Forwards Jack Skille, Kyle Greentree and Bracken Kearns picked up three points apiece in the two wins.
A win tonight would give Rockford sole possession of second place in the West Division as Houston is idle.
Next Home Game: Saturday, Dec. 5 vs. Lake Erie Monsters: The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,500 fans to the game will get an IceHogs Jersey Bag courtesy of Rockford Orthopedic, BOB FM and 23-WIFR. The game also marks the IceHogs annual Teddy Bear Toss for charity. IceHogs fans are invited to bring out a new stuffed animal and after the IceHogs score their first goal fans can then throw the stuffed animals onto the ice. The stuffed animals will get collected and delivered to local charities by IceHogs players and staff members to brighten the holidays for some underprivileged kids.
