Peoria Rivermen News Release

MILWAUKEE (December 2, 2009) - The Peoria Rivermen were a perfect 2-for-2 on the power play and 7-for-7 on the penalty kill in a 4-3 shootout win over the Milwaukee Admirals on Wednesday night at the Bradley Center. In the fifth meeting of the season, the Rivermen won for the fourth time against Milwaukee and for the third time in a shootout.

Ben Bishop made 27 saves in regulation and overtime before he stopped four-of-five in the shootout to earn the victory in his first start since Nov. 20. He had missed the last four games with an upper body injury.

Three Milwaukee power plays helped them build momentum in the opening period as they outshot the Rivermen 14-4. Their only goal of the period came moments after Peoria's second successful penalty kill when Andreas Thuresson wristed one through Bishop at 11:56.

The Rivermen power play erupted to start the second period as they scored twice in the first 2:18 to take a 2-1 lead. With Nolan Yonkman off for interference just 33 seconds in, Bryce Lampman slapped one through traffic and past Chet Pickard at 1:39. Scott Ford followed the goal up by taking a penalty 13 seconds later to put the Rivermen back on the man advantage. Brendan Bell fed Jonas Junland along the blue line and his slap shot generated a rebound for Julian Talbot. He kicked it to his stick and slid it home for his third goal of the season.

Barry Tallackson built the Rivermen lead to 3-1 when he picked up his own rebound at 7:23. After he intercepted a pass just inside the blue line, he fired a slap shot that Pickard stopped. Adam Cracknell battled and kept the rebound alive for Tallackson to drag around the netminder snap it into the net for his fifth of the year.

The two-goal cushion was short-lived as Peter Olvecky scored at 8:38 to cut the Rivermen lead to 3-2. The game-tying goal came at 16:36 when Scott Ford's slapshot deflected through Bishop for his first of the season.

When all was said and done, the Rivermen and Admirals combined for five goals on nine shots as Milwaukee outshot the Rivermen 5-4 during the frame. In the third, the teams racked up 18 shots (Peoria had eight) but neither team could score.

The Rivermen penalty kill shut down Milwaukee on three power plays in the third period alone, including a Lars Eller minor at 19:37 that put the Rivermen down for the opening minutes of overtime.

Talbot and Eller scored in the shootout as Bishop stopped all but Ryan Jones to win the game. Bishop improved to 3-0 in shootouts this season as the Rivermen are now 4-2 in shootout games overall.

The Manitoba Moose will be in town on Friday when the Rivermen return to Carver Arena. Every fan in attendance will receive a coupon for a free Blizzard courtesy of Dairy Queen. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start. Tickets are available at the Rivermen office by calling 309-676-1040 or online at www.rivermen.net/tickets.
