Soo Greyhounds News Release

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON- For the fourth time this season, the Soo Greyhounds left a point on the table in a shootout contest falling to the Sudbury Wolves 3-2 on Wednesday evening.

The shootout loss puts the Hounds at 1-3 when going to the one-on-one session deciding an OHL contest.

And in a game marking Game 2 of the Bell Challenge Cup between the two Northern Ontario rivals, the visitors scored in their 3rd round of the shootout to leave the Lock City with the full reward.

With the trio of TYLER GAUDET, JEAN DUPUY and JORGEN KARTERUD starting up front for the Hounds, the trio moved immediately into the Wolves zone with a quick chance but were unable to trigger the first goal of the game.

For Katerud, Wednesday Night marked his return to the line-up after missing ten games due to injury.

Then 5:45 in, DARNELL NURSE went coast to coast before going unsuccessful in tucking an attempt past Wolves netminder Franky Pallazese.

The first period featured few whistles between the two clubs and the Hounds puck possession outweighed that of their opponent but didn't result in any offensive success.

While on a 5-on-3 powerplay at the thirteen minute mark of the first, Sudbury would open the scoring when Nick Baptiste teed up a shot from between the circles, beating MATT MURRAY and giving them a 1-0 lead through twenty minutes.

For the Buffalo Sabres prospect that was his 19th goal of the season, and 4th in the last three games played.

The Hounds outshot Sudbury 12-4 in the period.

The lone goal of the second came with three minutes to play.  And while on the Hounds first powerplay of the game, ANDREW FRITSCH was the fourth person to touch the puck before depositing it past Palazzese for a 1-1 game through two periods.

JARED MCCANN and SERGEY TOLCHINSKY picked up the helpers.

In the third, after starting the period on the powerplay, it would be on the Hounds next advantage before they took their first lead of the contest.

DARNELL NURSE'S backhand from left of the goal found the back of the net at 4:11 for the 2-1 Greyhound lead.

After Nathan Pancel's attempt went off something in close, Sudbury would respond a minute later.

With a tired PK unit on the ice for the Hounds, and a number of failed clearing opportunities, Connor Crisp netted the game tying goal from in front making it a 2-2 game.

MATT MURRAY would make two big stops, first on Dominik Kahun and then Nick Baptiste all part of his 18 saves of the period to preserve the tied contest.

With neither team pulling ahead through the remainder or regulation or overtime (which went shotless for the Hounds), we would go to a shootout.

There it would come down to the third shooter for the Wolves, where Connor Crisp put a backhand past the blocker side of Murray for the Wolves victory.

The loss dropped the Hounds to 17-5-0-3 on the season, while improving to 37 points by virtue of the single point.
