Published on November 27, 2013 under Ontario Hockey League (OHL) News Release
Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Los Angeles Kings prospect Zac Leslie of the Guelph Storm is the CHL Player of the Week after recording 10 points in four games for the week ending November 24 scoring six goals with four assists and a plus-minus rating of plus-9.
Leslie is the second member of the Storm to win the national award this season following teammate Scott Kosmachuk. His 10 points helped his club earn three victories last week to move into a tie for first in the OHL standings with 41 points beginning with a 9-3 win over the Mississauga Steelheads last Tuesday night where he contributed two assists. After a 4-2 loss to the Windsor Spitfires on Friday night, the defenceman exploded for back-to-back four point games to finish his week including a career-high four-goal game on Saturday as first star of a 6-2 win over the Plymouth Whalers. Leslie claimed first star honours again on Sunday scoring twice with two assists in a 6-0 win over the Kitchener Rangers.
Leslie, a 19-year-old from Ottawa, ON, is playing in his third OHL season with the Storm. Selected by the Kings in the sixth round of the 2013 NHL Draft, Leslie has eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points in 18 games after recording 40 points in 68 games played last season.
Also considered for the award this week was last week's recipient Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Jonathan Drouin of the Halifax Mooseheads who scored once with six assists for seven points in two games, and two-time WHL Player of the Week Josh Winquist of the Everett Silvertips who scored four goals and four assists for eight points in four games.
